How To Optimize Your Website For Google Search Engine

How To Optimize Your Website For Google Search EngineMost people do not know how to optimize your website for Google search engine and get traffic and views to your site.

If your one of those people do not feel bad.

Down further in this blog I am going to give you some tips that I used to take my starting results which were less then 50/100 to optimized for both Mobile and Desktop.

When I had my first WordPress site all I thought that I needed to do was load the most current version of WordPress and then add a few plug ins and all would be fine.

I found that to not be the case.  I was having a hard time ranking my blogs and I could never figure out why.

When I decided to create a new or what I consider go forward website which is www.workwithvince.com and if your reading this blog you are reading it from there.  I wanted to make sure it was optimized to its fullest.

I was fortunate to find a tool called Google Page Speed tool and you can access that tool by clicking HERE.

How To Optimize Your Website For Google Search Engine My Tips:

This was from my other website and I wonder why I wasn’t getting traffic.  Now learn how to optimize your website for Google search Engine.

How To Optimize Your Website For Google Search Engine

Now to move forward with how to optimize your website for google search engine you already have put your URL in the Google Page Speed tool and see your results.  Compare the results to the plug ins below.  They may help resolve some of your sites issues like they did mine

  • Installed Plug In Async JS and CSS – Converts render-blocking CSS and JS files into NON-render-blocking, improving performance of web page
  • Installed Plug In EWWW Image Optimizer – Reduce file sizes for images within WordPress including NextGEN Gallery and GRAND FlAGallery. Uses jpegtran, optipng/pngout, and gifsicle
  • Installed Plug In Scripts-To-Footer – This small plugin moves scripts to the footer to help speed up page load times, while keep stylesheets in the header. Note that this only works if you have plugins and a theme that utilizes wp_enqueue_scripts correctly.
  • Installed Plug In W3 Total Cache – The highest rated and most complete WordPress performance plugin. Dramatically improve the speed and user experience of your site. Add browser, page, object and database caching as well as minify and content delivery network (CDN) to WordPress.

Another issue I ran across was browser cashing.  This update is not for the faint of heart.  You will need to edit your .htaccess file.

You can access your .htaccess file through cPanel by clicking on the File Manager. When the popup box appears, click on the Web Root option and make sure that the “Show hidden files” option is checked.

When you see your .htaccess file you then will need to edit it and add the following code to the top of the file.  ** Warning Warning Warning Will Robinson **  Make sure you back this file up before editing anything.

Once you are ready to edit the file then add the following code:

## EXPIRES CACHING ##
<IfModule mod_expires.c>
ExpiresActive On
ExpiresByType image/jpg “access 1 year”
ExpiresByType image/jpeg “access 1 year”
ExpiresByType image/gif “access 1 year”
ExpiresByType image/png “access 1 year”
ExpiresByType text/css “access 1 month”
ExpiresByType application/pdf “access 1 month”
ExpiresByType text/x-javascript “access 1 month”
ExpiresByType application/x-shockwave-flash “access 1 month”
ExpiresByType image/x-icon “access 1 year”
ExpiresDefault “access 2 days”
</IfModule>
## EXPIRES CACHING ##

By using this code, our main static files (images, CSS, PDF’s, JS, etc.) will be cached in order to produce faster loading times in the future.

Now make sure you save your .htaccess file and go back to the Google page speed tool and see what your results are now.

How To Optimize Your Website For Google Search Engine One More Cool Plugin

I found one more very cool plugin on my journey on how to optimize your website for google search engine and that plug in is called:

  • P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler) – See which plugins are slowing down your site. Create a profile of your WordPress site’s plugins’ performance by measuring their impact on your site’s load time.

I ran this at the end.  I wanted to see what plug ins I currently have running were affecting my speed.  I found that pop up domination was a huge resource hog and I decided to remove it.

I wasn’t sure if I liked that people couldn’t come to my site freely anyway without the annoying pop up.  I may add it back in the future but will test a bit without it.

My new score based on “how to optimize your website for Google search engine”.  I’l take it.

I’ll never forget the day.  Tracy and I were sitting in the doctor’s office at Georgetown University which is just outside of Washington DC.   The neurologist walked in, paused for a second and said.  ”I’m sorry Tracy your MS progressed.  You will never be able to work at a job again”.

RIGHT THEN I knew something had to change.
